This is a clamp to hold printed circuit boards while they are being soldered. I have a panavice but it moves when I am trying to work on it and that drives me nuts. This vice does not move.
The round base is cast iron. It was from an old fireplace poker set I got at a yard sale for the cast brass ends for another project. I think I paid $1.00 for the whole set. The first pin that it rotates on is stainless the rest is just mild steel from the scrap bin. I can rest both hands solid on it while soldering and it does not move. Most of the time I will hold boards using the 2 groves but I added the 1/4-28 hole for the clips to give more flexibly when working with strange shaped boards. The center rod is just .375 drill rod so I can change sizes as needed.
