Here are some pictures of the Electric Upright Bass (EUB) build. We're making slow but steady progress, learning as we go, fixing mistakes or shortcomings in the plan.

Looks like a fun project, especially since you are building it with your son. I've never heard of marblewood. It has interesting grain but looks kind of soft from the pics. How does it machine?

It's actually very dense and hard as heck (kind of like leopardwood/lacewood). It has beautiful grain, but is kind of flaky to work with, doesn't plane well, even taking very light cuts as the grain seems to want to drift, lift and generally be a pain in the neck. But it is beautiful stuff...where the dark wood varies into the light, the grain pattern almost looks like feathers. It is going to be stunning with a dozen coats of citrus oil.
