Problem with the Search Function

I am having no luck in using the "Search" function. I am trying to find if there are any threads on the end mill grinding fixture that all the tool dealers sell but when I put in "end mill grinding fixture" I get all posts for each word i.e. mill, grinding, ect. I tried placing the phrase in quotes but that does not seem to help.

Where am I going wrong?

You are not doing anything wrong that I know of. It is simply the incredibly lame search facility that I have seen on ever board I have been on. The inability of the board software developers to implement a search function that supports a phrase astounds me. Google has managed and they have data on significantly more than one board.

And that might be a possible solution. Google will allow you to limit your search to a specific domain name and specify a phrase. Assuming Google has scanned the site recently you might find it that way.

Here is an example for you: Hobby-Machinist Search

Willie,

That is incredibly cool.

I checked and enabled the Boolean search feature on the board. You can also type in:

end + mill + grinding + fixture

and you will get results as follows:

Search: Type: Posts; Keyword(s): mill, grinding, fixture
  • [h=6]Inline Mod[/h]
    • Select All
    • Deselect All
    • Invert Selection
[h=2]Search: Search took 0.03 seconds; generated 1 minute(s) ago.[/h]

I agree that Google is best- I can look into adding a Google box to our board.

I can't believe that all you had to do to enable boolean search was flip a switch.

THANKS!!

So it was not an implementaiton issue. Having been a developer for 35 years I guess I had gotten use to them taking the heat for the software not working the way a user would expect it to.

Anyway, thanks for turning the feature on. I wish more board managers would look thru there options and say "I wonder if this would help with the user experience" rather than just saying "It lights up the screen, new where is that ad revenue?"

This seems too easy. I hope that there are no unintended consequences, such as excessive CPU utilization.
