Hello the forum. I just received a Shars 0XA tool post for my orphaned Shars tool holders, also 0XA. The dovetails
do not fit !!! The tool holder dovetails are just a bit to narrow ! No mistake about the size, 250-000 tool post, 250-002
tool holder, 250-010 knurler, ..... ALL 0XA Shars. Now, I did take the tool post apart, to inspect why I feel it gritty.
No grit, just unfinished tool marks rubbing. Put back together, now decided to check the fit. Woah. Tool holders do not fit.
I worked hard, trial and error, until I believe I got them in correct. sliding parts operate correctly. Photos show them
reinserted. ???

Kept trying to get a fit, and succedded. Last photo. It inserted completely. Very tight to start, just a nudge to tighten. Movable jaws
have to AT MAX to get it on. BUT only on one side, will not fit other position. Something is not right. Ideas. I was going to post
about condition of Shars 0XA tool post, but I guess I have, so far.

I noticed that the last few CXA holders I purchased from Shars were tighter than normal. I like them as they lock up with less travel compared to some others I have.

Working the tighten down lever with one holder half way in, seems to free up the mechanism some. I have
been able to insert and remove some tool holders. Then it gets stuck again. Called Shars, they are looking into it.
They see responsive. Will update this post.

Do you have any tool holders that fit? If so measure the dove tail with two dowel pins and compare it with the new holders. Just make sure that the dowel pins rest on the side and bottom of the dove tail. Not on the edge. Because it is only a comparison, no need to work out the math.

All tool holder have fit, then they don't. The change takes place with operation of the lock down knob, it seems. One of
the sliding tension parts is not seating in flush (visible), then tool holders don't fit. When this slider part is fully seated
the tool holders fit. So it seems. Will examine more tomorrow. I am suspecting fit / finish of the tool post.
Good to have the forum for support, thanks guys.

I have a similar problem with a super cheap axa I got from a mystery drop shipper. It was cheaper than Shars, and I gambled. The previous axa I bought from Shars worked great. I made the assumption that I should have used Shars. I just keep messing with it, but it’s a daily reminder that there is a cost to being a cheapskate.

So that’s too bad that yours was from Shars. Sort of surprised they didn’t just tell you to send it back and send you a new one.

Can you see or pin point where the interference is. Still made in china product , correct. The level of QC is only a marginal step up and depending on the lapse in time between when the post and tool holders where made many things could have changed. Just enough to be a issue

That looks to me like the wedges are installed "low". When the post is open/loose the wedge should stick up above the top of the toolpost. When it's closed/locked it should be pretty close to flush with the top surface. At least that's how it goes on every wedge-style I've used. Can they be adjusted "upwards"?

I kinda thought that myself but was too lazy to go double check.

Maybe it can be disassembled and skipped a tooth?
