Hello Folks,

Even though I am focusing on getting a new machine, this used machine(s) caught my eye:

I was mostly interested because it was a PM and it was right around the size I was looking for.
Downside appears to be the two machines were from some sort of production facility so they probably have more wear and tear on them.
Plus probably almost certainly no extra tooling.

Thoughts? Is this unit a red-headed stepchild of the PM clan? Is the pricing what I should expect to see for a used PM unit of this size/era?

Thanks again.

Looks similar to my PM-1130v. I bought mine new for ~$3900 w/o a stand. So, they are asking for a price that's not super low. But there is the stand and the DRO. It would cost close to 5K to get a new one. I'd also rate the machine with a 3-year warranty as more desirable than one w/o that.

The cover on the left side of the lathe (that covers the belt drive for the motor and the change gears) appears to have been modified on both units. I would ask why that is different.

I'd also ask if they include both the 3-jaw and 4-jaw chucks. Steady rest and follow rest? Chuck for the tailstock? Toolpost is shown. - how about tool holders? Do they supply all the change gears?

I'm not sure if that unit has the D1-4 Camlock holder for the chucks. This is better than a screw in chuck holder since it eliminates concern over the chuck deciding to unscrew itself when run in reverse.

They say there's a collet holder. That's beneficial, but you might ask if they also are providing a collet set.

I have one. It's been a great machine. That one looks a little different, but it should be similar.

Mine has a D1-4 chuck mount. I believe some early versions did not, so it might be worth asking. If it does, comes with all the accessories, and a collet chuck and stand, not a bad price, if not a great one. If it's in good shape and such, I would probably consider it if I were in the market.

The 1127 is their older 11" lathe, it has been replaced by the 1130. Current pricing on the 1130, with stand, shipping, taxes would put it about $4900. $3200 for a used machine, of a design PM no longer stocks is not a bad price, but I wouldn't call it great. If the seller is willing to make a deal though it could be worthwhile, either added tooling or dropping the price some.

At that $4900 price I quoted the 1130 only comes with a quick change tool post, 3 jaw chuck, face plate, centers, steady and follow rest.

I see a drill chuck on the closer machine, so it is certainly possible that they have more included tooling than new which could make the $3200 asking price more attractive. A 4 jaw and collet chuck could easily add several hundred dollars of value.

Looking at the photos it looks like they have DRO scales on the bed and cross slide and there is a photo of a DRO display, although I don't see it mounted to the machine. If they have a functioning DRO that would add more value if a DRO is desirable to you. DRO is $500 extra on the 1130.

My 1130v included a 4 jaw as part of the base machine (I've only used it a few times, but it seems good). And a faceplate (which I' have not used yet). There's a place for both chucks, but I use my ER40 collet for work holding on the lathe about 90% of the time. And about 90% of the time for tool holding on the mill.

I would not do that at that price especially with the modified boxes. a little over a 1000 more and you get it new with all the stuff that comes with it and a 3 year warranty.

For sake of comparison, I have a PM-1127VF-LB with D4 mount chucks (3 and 4 jaw) DRO, full set change gears, tail stock chucks and centers, AXA and original tower tool rests, steady rests, spider, and 3 drawer stand. It has served me well for the past 2 years. If I were to sell mine the price would be about what the guy in San Diego has his listed for but mine has the original side cover (which the guy in San Diego appears to have replaced with a home brew cover) and mine was not used in a commercial or industrial arts program as I suspect the two show in the listing may have been.
