Some of you know I am teaching a class in Mechanicsburg PA at a USA Navy Depot. One of my students is rebuilding a Monarch lathe and he is now working on the tailstock. He has another machine waiting when this one is finished. He was having issues setting up the bottom section or sole of it as it seemed twisted when he set it on a Bridgeport to mill the bottom. He milled 2 holes in a surplus cast iron plate so he could check the top of the sole. He milled pockets in the plate and then power scraped the plate and then inked it up with red ink as shown. It works good.
