I don't know how many of you guys are aware of this but many of the 1940's vintage Popular Science and Popular Mechanics magazines are available on Google Books, and they are LOADED with shop projects and tips. There are steam engines, I.C. engines, machine accessories, tools, you name it. In particular, search for articles by C.W. Woodson. He was THE project guru of the 1940's. Also search each magazine by year and just browse through them or search for a specific tool or project. Most of the shop stuff was published from the mid 30's through the 40's and into the early 50's.

For instance, here is an article, complete with drawings, on building a nice little tool post grinder.

My dad has most of the issues from the mid 30's on and I would literally spend days as a kid just looking through them for things to make.

Have fun!

I love finding stuff in those. I just wish it were easier to print things off of them.
