PM BS-0 dividing head, tension spring keeps popping out

If you unscrew the handle of the dividing head, there's a tension spring that keeps the "clock hands" from coming out.

I took my dividing head apart this morning for the first time since receiving it a few days ago. I slide it back in, but if I rotate the "clock hands," it keeps popping out. Now I'm unsure whether it's put in backwards or not.

The manual is no help at all. It doens't even have a label for it part.

The arched part of the spring should face outwards.

I dont know what's going on. When I move the hands, it eventually touches the spring and it pushes it out

The screw and washer are used to lock the two sector arms together to count the number of holes on the index plates.
