Has anyone sorted out a good upgrade solution. for a sourced motor and pulley combo? I'd like to be in the 3hp 6000rpm range.

I could be wrong but might want to rethink that a bit. The size of a 3 HP motor on top of that mill might not be supported well. Also that mill doesn't have the rigidity to support milling with 3HP.

I agree with Will. Hell, even my PM935 doesn't have the rigidity to support 3HP.

Perhaps not. I certainly want to double the Spindle RPM, I wouldn't thing that weight or physical size of a 3hp brushless motor would be an issue. It might be overkill though.

I keep forgetting that these mills typically use BLDC motors. Not sure how big a 3HP BLDC actually is. And due to how BLDC motors are driven perhaps a 3HP rated motor is not out of the question.

They are not very big. Not sure the exact size but BLDC put out a lot of power in a very small package.
I fly large RC helicopters and I am using something on the order of a 4hp motor that fits in the palm of my hand.

BLDC motors are more efficient for a given size/rating. When I had my last bench mill I kept trying to find a good BLDC motor to put on it, but the only place I could find the motor and controls was a factory in China. They were willing to sell it to me, but I had no experience in dealing with international companies so stayed away from it.
