Piston for Hydraulic Downfeed Modification

Joe,

We are looking forward to those pics. For those who may not know, the downfeed modification is to RESTRAIN the rate of downfeed on the metal-cutting bandsaw in order to keep it from dropping too fast on the material and messing up the material, the blade, and potentially, the tracking. You can buy a premade kit for this, and I have the web site somewhere where you can order one for about $125, but it is cheaper and more rewarding if you can do it yourself.

Best,

Nelson

Fantastic job, Joe- thanks for outlining it for us. The saw really looks awesome, and I'm sure it functions flawlessly.

I doubt I could ever match your effort, so I may just buy the piston kit, but I do plan to make a new precision vise for smaller pieces that I am likely to need to cut once I get set up to make clock parts and such.

Best,

Nelson

And another piston setup:
