Pin Gauge Storage for Convenients

Guys over time we collect few sets of Pin Gages in those plastic boxes or maybe metal ones. I was thinking I wish I had just one storage container for my three sets.Well I have a large tool cabinet with HD drawers that I was thinking about dedicating one drawer just for pin gages. I know its not something that you will use daily but not having to dig out the right plastic box and being able to keep an eye on them to prevent rust I think is a benefit. I'm sure I am not the first to thinking about having easy access, being able to do better job of rust prevention and getting to the right one all in one drawer. What is your thoughts on this and what is your ideal about marking the sizes etc. If you have any pics please share.box.jpg

I like the individual sets in wooden boxes best, they are pretty tight, and with some VCI paper in the boxes are immune to corrosion, so far. The tool box drawer in the pic is pretty open to air and moisture getting into it. It also seems like a lot of work if you have to make custom holders for the pins, lots of drilling and labeling. No good reason to reinvent the wheel here, IMO. But, I do not use them often, either...

Thanks Bob I do agree,it is lot of work. I was on auction site and I see that there are metal cabinets with 3-4 drawers with full set of pin gauges that sells for 6-800.00 bucks. I thought that was neat to have all gauges in one spot, but I think I will just stick with what I have which is in individual boxes with the VCI paper that HM's recommended.

I got this rack on ebay for $1.00 ...it cost $60.00 in shipping but still well worth it.
Came with the pins that are in it also.
That tool box looks very nice. But the price is hard to swallow.

it would be a little tedious but could be home made.

Wish a person could find those trays that would be nice, like your setup

Knowing very little about the process myself, but as soon as I saw that rack I wondered if 3D printing would be a good way to make trays? If nothing else, it would save probably days of mind-numbing drilling....

That might work real well. Maybe paint for the size markings? Or vinyl lettering?
Raised lettering and change filament color at that height? I like that one best!

That sounds like plan, plastic wouldn’t attack moisture like one made out wood
