Making a road trip to pickup a used Harig Super612 surface grinder. Going to us a 5x10 stake bed trailer and plan on tying it down, possibly taking the top grinder off the metal base and tying it down on the trailer floor or maybe on a pallet. Are there any concerns as to how and where to tie down the tool for safe transport of about 450 miles. Also what not to do transporting this tool is probably more important!!!
Any advise is really appreciated! Thanks

I was told once that the table should be removed before transport as it may bounce around and damage the slides. I have never moved a surface so I have no first hand experience but it does seem to be a reasonable precaution.

Yes remove the table as it only sits on the top of the slides, this is assuming that there are no other attachments to the table like hydaulics etc.
Based upon the pictures it looks alot like a Boyer Schultz and have had 2 of those in the shop. You should be able to tie down with straps between the base and the grinder if you find that you do not want to split the unit. In any case do not strap to the spindle housing, the column should be ok. It may have a one shot oiler that will leak oil watch for that. If you can try to back it to one of the trailer sides if they are high and sturdy enough to help support, but likely you know this stuff already. Good luck.
Surface grinders are very useful but in a home shop it is tough to run by the financial officer!

Yes remove the table, lower the head alway down. then strap it down and be on your way. The table rides on ball bearing strips.
