A friend has a lathe in his garage that was used by his father who has now passed. He has no use for the lathe and has asked me to get any info I can on it. He believes his father originally got it from Pratt&Whitney. It says Philip Smith on the Norton type gearbox but it has only one handle instead of the usual two. It uses two stepped flatbelt pulleys and a 11oV motor. Seems to be sleeve bearings as it has oil cups. It has a steady and a 4 jaw on it and there may be other stuff that was stored elsewhere. It has been stored indoors for many years and is covered black dust but doesn't appear rusted. It was operational when his father passed and has been untouched since. Should he sell it/scrap it/keep it??? I have no clue. I already have a lathe or I would take it myself. This is not the actual lathe but it looks just like this one including the crazy power system on standoffs. Any info would be appreciated.
