any oil better than no oil

personally, I bought 1 gallon containers from Enco, spindle, ways, type c which is I think light/medium (forgot) so that's 3 gallons total

for type B I use hydraulic oil

also for pulleys you need a special grease that goes in the "oil" holes

I run the lathe so much that I need that much oil to last lifetime (I'm almost 56). A quart not enough for me.

you need to look up the oil chart for South Bend. I have a 9A. A 15" must be just awesome!!!!!

when I first got my lathe last year I was amazed at all the little places that need oiling and all the wicks that need changing about once every 15 years at least

Glad to help.

FWIW guys, I just found out the grease that Steve Wells is selling, Viscotech DE112, is made by ECL "Engineered Custom Lubricants" up in Illinois. This was the original teflon grease South Bend prescribed for the back gears and spindle cone.
