New to me Clausing lathe

Well today I spent digging for chips on the cross slide. The compound is way to tight due to the amount of chips and old dried oil. What a mess. I softened up the compound with a heat gun and it moves. Just an insane amount of hardened chips. Just cleaning is going to be a PITA. Each tool holder channel was full to the top.

Make sure to loosen up all your gibs to help make it easer to move to get those chips out.

Cutting oil is my blood.

This morning more chip removal and I got the angular swivel slide loose. It's been moved in years past as the inboard bolt was a bit loose. Now next is pull it, clean it up and clean the saddle and install.

I finally opened the cabinet at the far right. Gold mine. Another smaller faceplate. And at least 50 carbide tipped cutters, another tool post, and a saddle stop. In the very back I found the pictured service info sheet from 67 still in its clear plastic sheet and staples at the top. Not sure if this machine was modified this way or what. I'll put it back.

Bonus goodies are always a welcome sight.
If that literature was in there. It is likely it has been converted.

One more bonus goodies. A Colchester lathe Co. Double open end wrench in 3/4 , 15/16.
Not sure what it fits on here but I'll find it

Just pulled off another greasy chip infested part. At least they kept it oiled.

Your lathe is quite similar to my Colchester Master 6.5. It is still in pieces from a tear-down and cleaning. I didn't get to work on it this weekend, but I hope to soon. This picture is when I began disassembly, and never intending to go as far as I have. I'm enjoying your thread.

Those both are great looking lathes. Keep us updated on your progress.

Looks almost like mine. Since you have the coolant tank door open can you remove the tank, or go through the back. My tank is leaking, or something under there leaks.
