Just joined the forums and wanted to introduce myself and post up my new purchase. I recently picked up an Atlas 618 lathe that was really well taken care of. It was in really good shape, no real rust anywhere, just covered with grease, oil and crud. It came with a ton of extra tooling including the milling attachment, barely used it seems, with the receipt still stuck to the box. I decided to teary it down and scrub everything clean. Taped off, sprayed primer then painted everything. I will post that process later.

Model 618
SN# 021861 (1960s from what I can tell but not sure)

Sneak peak at the progress before adding primer.

Nice, great to get all the fixin’s too. Mine is not too far from yours — #019875 — but I’ve never really tried to track the age. Interesting oil cups on yours, have never seen that style on the 618 before. Wonder if they’re a retro fit to get larger capacity which would make a lot of sense.

Is that someone’s SS# under the Atlas badge?
Beautiful, I’ve always had a jones for an Atlas 6” machine.

I was wondering about those oil cups as well. They were filled with grease/oil that had hardened to a wax like substance that I had to scrape out of them. Curious as to the year of my lathe as well but I will do some more research to see what I can find out.

I was trying to figure out what that number was myself. Looks like a SN# but might be something else. I have already scrubbed, primered and painted everything so it will only live in in pictures :D

Here are some more pic of what came with the lathe. The Atlas instructions and parts list shows 1960. The lathe operations book is in amazing condition and such a cool old book/manual. I really dig reading old manuals like this. I know I am weird.
