I want to make a small (about 120mm vertical clearance and a throat of about 250mm) table top band saw. I have looked at a few commercially available one's here and the tables are really not up to scratch, let alone the rest. I would like to have the option for wood and metal (speeds). For this I will use a vsd as well as a jack shaft. Would love to have a 2 speed gearbox and although gears are not an issue I am struggling with a simple solution for the construction thereof. I will not make a table with an angular adjustment, just plain for a vertical blade, as well as a slot for a sliding guide/fence . Planning to use a .55 kw 1440 rpm motor. I have bought the aluminium for the wheels so far. 280mm Diameter and 30mm thick.
In a previous life I made large (4 wheel) vertical and horizontal saws for the cutting of PU foam, so I will be drawing on that experience .
Any input/ experience that you have please share, thanks
