Hi wing98,

Congrats!
That looks like a very stout and stable machine. It also looks like a great size.

What is the table on the back side for?
Is there another grinding disc back there?

What did you have to trade for that, it looks great. Now you just have to get time to use it. again congrat on getting the surface grinder.

yes it has a second table that is tilting .
I traded a mini mill for it

This type of Hammond grinder was used to grind/sharpen cemented carbide tools back in its day. The magnetic chuck was a "add on" that someone mounted on the table. There should be a "all angle" vise that mounted in place of the MC. This side of the grinder was set up to grind the chip breaker or top clearance on the top side of the cemented carbide tool. The other side of the grinder was for grinding the side/front clearance on the tool. The grinder was normally set up with either silicon carbide or diamond grinding wheels. I guess with A/O wheels, you could grind HSS with it too!

Hammond is still in business & would likely respond to an email from you requesting documentation. They sent me a parts break down sheet on a wet-dry sander I acquired last year.
