New Life For A 2000 / 11"

Hi all! I picked up a used/abused 11" last September from a nice guy who had it sitting for years in his alternator rebuild shop. All he ever used it for was cleaning the copper contacts on rotors. The thing was covered in copper dust and pretty much all of the oil was on the outside. I dismantled it and cleaned/degreased everything and was really surprised to find very little wear. It's all back together now and I'm really enjoying it. I haven't used a metal lathe in about 40 years but it's all coming back. I'll post a few pics of the finished product.

Originally, this was wired for 600V, 3Ph power. I picked up a used Leeson 3/4hp and wired everything for 220v single phase. I had to change out the coil in the AB mag start (Size 00) for a 120V unit and I installed the correct heaters because the Leeson has no thermal protection. I added some legend plates from Carolina Laser as a finishing touch. I plan to turn an extension for the stop button so you can smack it instead of having to hunt for it.

The nameplates are somewhat worn (the QC gearbox more so). Anyone know of a cost effective (cheap) way to replace these? I did the artwork on the PC and sent it along to Montreal Stencil for a quote but they want $125 for the pair. I'm saving for a tool post instead!

It appears that this was originally an imperial machine that was converted to metric. If you notice, the QC gearbox is actually from an older Utilathe. It is rounded vs. the angular Series 2000 version. Also, the ABC handle is set further back and whoever did the conversion hacked at the bed with a grinder to get it to fit (the base of the handle is also ground down). I filled the area with epoxy and reground it so it sorta kinda looks like it fits in. I have some oil cups on back order at the moment so I'm stuffing paper towel into the openings in the meantime. Another effect of the conversion appears to be the feed direction... When using the power feed, the saddle moves as expected but when cutting threads with the leadscrew, it is opposite. I don't remember that being the case on the Utilathes at school. Can anyone with a 2000 verify this for me?

A few more pics... Series 2000 owners will notice that the thread dial is removed. It came with the older style external dial that mounts on the post on the right side of the apron.

My shop is small and I mess around with wood as well so my crafty Wife whipped up a cover for me to keep the dust off. Schweet!!!
