I needed to put a simple alignment mark for a second op on some parts I was machining over the weekend. I was looking through my tools trying to find something appropriate when I realized that my Fisher Micro Tap Guide is spring loaded and has a nice sharp concentric point. I loaded it up, set the DOC at .010", the speed at 500 RPM and the feed at 10 IPM. The markings are fine and sharp. If I needed to do this more often I'd buy a diamond drag engraving tool, but for an occasional use it works great.
