Need Help. I Hope Someone Can Measure Their Jet 1340 Or 1440 Cross Slide

I picked up an Optimum 12 x36 lathe with a destroyed cross slide......looking at the jets it appears to be identical. Before I order the part if someone could measure width and length of their cross slide it would be great

I believe the 1340 and 1440 interchange and look to be the same as the part I need

My Jet 13x40GH is 4.655 x 12.687

Mine was built in the mid 80's
 
My Jet is a 14 x 40 GW, the 10" bed width model. The cross slide is 5.565 x 17.034. Built in 2009. The critical dimension you need also is the size of your dovetail that the slide rides on. The ultimate width and length of the cross slide is not as important as is the dovetail dimension on your lathe. Also there may be variations in the crossfeed shaft and nut. You mention your slide is destroyed. What is the damage? If it is the dovetail or the flat slide areas, these can be repaired by having the slide ground and built up with a product called turcite.

The t bolts were yanked through and ripped through the top plate. The entire mounting area for the compound is a separate piece now. The dovetails are in good shape. I have until tomorrow to decide to take the lathe back to the re seller.... I don't know what other damage I will uncover as I worry the damage is more than just this.... Also the tool post is captured and not a t style mount so I would have to deal with that for a qctp. Likely past my current skill set

Wonder if your lathe suffered a crash into the chuck, which may have bent the spindle, or if it was tipped over moving it? Either way, if you have the option to return it, I would. Lathes like that can be bought cheaper than repairing a lot of damage.

Sure looks like a big crash took place. Considering its a no name machine and parts could be tricky to get, I would give it a miss unless it was free and you were inclined for what could be a long project, I would surely want to check the runout on the spindle.

Thanks everyone.....the lathe is going back today. I was hoping to save it but the repair is >> than my skill set. Back to work on my 9x20 enco
