Hiya folks,
My son bought a pile of old tooling recently and there is one item in the haul that is a total mystery to both of us.
Looks to be some kind of a chain wrench ... maybe ...
No manufacturer's markings on it.
Any and all suggestions appreciated......!
Thank you

It looks like the chain version of a strap wrench but missing the lever.

Chain clamp for securing multiple pieces together for band sawing?

Might be used in coupling alignment of rotating machinery. A rod of some kind would be attached to it. The rod would extend over the coupling to the coupling on the other machine. A dial indicator would be mounted on it. More photos would help. Could also be used for aligning work on a horizontal boring mill.

I have seen straps like that used to hold glassware on a chem stand. Sort of like this. Your gadget probably is NOT a labware clamp but it might fill a similar function somewhere else. The chain tightener doesn't look beefy enough for a chain wrench app (to me anyway).

Forty Niner has it right. Have used these for aligning pump motor combinations.

JOY & IR compressors, motor to the gear case. 450 to 2000 hp. many times
