Hey all,

I wound up with a new, never used 8" 4-jaw chuck that is missing the cam lock studs. The dimensions all suggest it's D1-4 and the stud holes are 5/8". The problem is that the threads for the studs appears to be 3/8-24. I have only found studs with 7/16-20 and M10 threads. I only used a thread chasing tap to check the sizes, so it's not exactly the most precise check, but there's no way it's 7/16 or M10. Making it more odd is that the locking screw threads are M6.

I've spent a couple of hours looking for something that might work without any success at all. Anybody have any ideas?

I'm not keeping the chuck as I don't have anything with D1-4 right now, but thought it would be easier to sell ready to use and I've got so many projects line up I'll never get around to trying to make a set of pins.

Yes, letting the buyer figure it out is a good plan.
But it is arguably the most ethical to declare the debacle when posting the FS.
And price it accordingly....

3/8-24 is real close to a M10-1.5 I believe. Can you double check the thread using a M10 tap.

Sell it as-is, let the buyer worry about it.
I'm considering that, but I wouldn't want to dump this on someone else without letting them know what they'd be facing.

I tried M10-1 as I recall and it wouldn't start. I'm not sure if I have M10-1.5, but it's worth checking. I thought the standard metric stud was M10-1, so I'm not sure it will help?

Mystery solved; I'm an idiot!

I thought the thread chaser I tried was M10-1 but it was M10-1.5. I thought the 3/8-24 thread chaser was a touch loose so tried a brand new 3/8-24 tap and it was obviously not correct. I had to buy an M10-1 bolt and it fits absolutely perfectly. I couldn't imagine why a company would use anything but the most common studs, but weirder things have happened I guess.

Now I'm happy to sell it without the studs knowing it uses a common size...whew!
