Last weekend, I substantially completed the “dirty work” on my barn find…a 1974 Wells Index 887…I’ve always wanted a milling machine to tinker with….. something small to medium sized that would comfortably fit in the garage that I could hone my skills on as I approach retirement….anyway…came across this 3,200lb monster somewhat accidentally…a skeptical wife miraculously approved and after a bit of a white-knuckle drive, managed to get it home and offloaded…. Spent a week questioning if I had completely lost my mind before finally setting in to completely dismantle the beast (wife even more skeptical now but still being “supportive”). Several weeks later and victim of sore scrubbing-elbow and steady stream of curious stares and comments from the neighbours and passers-by….my phoenix rose from the ashes so to speak. Missing a couple of bits (couple of hand wheels, incremental dials and some way locks) and the DRO and scales are a couple of weeks out but it runs pretty good and will more than handle any work I could throw at it….stay tuned :)
