My old-time hero

After watching that video for the second time it occurred to me how much cast iron would have been machined back in those days.
The ways weren’t hardened.
Those machines must have required a re-scraping or to be reground in a fairly short time.
What do you think?

You are right Janderso!
The bed ways on many lathes had to be reground.
There is one video that had eluded me.
He is checking the runout on a piece in a four-jaw chuck.
He is not using a dial indicator, but a metal indicator that is made from two pieces of metal.
It actually worked better that a dial indicator.
I wish I could find that video, but I have looked tirelessly and cannot find it.
