My father in law used to be a machinist in his younger days. A few years ago they downsized and moved to a smaller home, in the process he gave all his tools to his brothers. Nevertheless, there were two large chests which he made himself and bequethed to our two sons. The chests have been standing in my garage since the downsize and I've never had a peek inside.
Until this evening. And look what I discovered:
Enough high speed steel blanks to while away armageddon. At least, that's my impression. Dunno how long these things last.
Mostly 1/4 inch "mitco", a once-respectable local engineering brand, some Somta blanks (two very thin ones). All of it is old, and I'd presume made from the good stuff since they are dimensioned in imperial.
Also in the chests were two sets of metric screw gauges, a complete set of SKF taps, two huge british monkey wrenches, two big swedish shifting spanners (as we call them here), some files, and some very odd u-shaped outside taps. A whole bunch of them. I'll take acpic tomorrow, since I left them in the chest.
My journey has begun.... and this is just the one chest.
