So I'm going to be moving a B & S 510 several hundred miles in a box truck across PA ,MD and WV (so bumps and hills aplenty even on the pike).
Should I remove the table or will that be a can of worms ?
Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.
Jim

Block between the spindle housing and the table with a block of wood and lower the spindle to bear on the table snugly. When shipping, the company used straps and studs to firmly pull the upright down to the bed casting. This applied to the Micromaster, perhaps the same for the 510

That machine has steel roller bearings under the table. I would pull the table so there is no chance of indenting the cast iron ways, Then block under the headstock to the saddle as John said.. That machine is top heavy so be careful. I would band it or bolt it to a big wood skid or a home built 2 x 6 skid that you lag bolt or carriage bolt it. Check-out page 9 and 22. http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/2185/24857.pdf

Thanks guys,
Trip is completed !! 547 miles one way (MapQuest missed by over a 100....)
Anyway removed the table, and magnetic-chuck as one unit, collected the rollers and race plates into bags and box.
Table got double wrapped in moving blanket and strapped to an appliance dolly laid flat that got snugged from two directions into the front corner of the truck. Accessaries , tools , hubs, stones, diamond holders, dust collector, etc. all wrapped and put in milk-crates for transport. The spindle housing and table support got adjusted forward and down against wood blocks and the ratchet-strapped to keep snug and in place. The riggers then got it out of the building with less than 2 inches of clearance through the doorway headers. They placed it inside the tailgate and against the side. I used three levels of ratchet straps to hold in place against the wall. Checked the straps at about 75 miles, minor adjustments and then several more times in route. Everything arrived safely. Used the forks on my JD 5410 and bars through the access holes as shown in manual that Richard pointed out from vintage machinery, worked great !
It is inside my sliding door between the shop and the main barn. Table is still off but inside and dry. Very happy that is accomplished even though not able to use it for a while.
Knee surgery scheduled for this next Tuesday so this really had to happen now.
Thanks again for your suggestions,
Jim

Thanks for sharing and good luck next week. A friend of mine had his replaced and said he wished he had done it years ago. He is pain free now.

I don't have a farm, only about 1 acre of grass, but I do have 2 JD lawn Tractors (mowers, lol) I think they are the best manufacture out there. I am happy we could have helped! Rich

PS: Be sue you have a sharp diamond for dressing the wheel and if you need any help learning how to run it, HM has a lot of experts.
