If you don't have felt to replace your way wipers Leather is a good substitute. Learned this from Peire. I personally think it works better than felt.
Also a good project for beginners is this edge finder made from a bearing. Just be sure you turn the shaft and the end on the same centerline using a live or dead center. When completed just measure the o/d of the bearing and divide by 2. When it touches off it will spin. Then move over 1/2 the diameter of the bearing. I think D Gray sells a kit to make this. Check his link out in the sponsors links. Lots of great projects there.
