So the monarch 16 CY that I have when I got it there were a few issues that I noticed and after talking to the last owner it was like that when he got it 16 years ago . I’m referring to how the clutch would engage when you push the lever down it should slowly engage the clutch and the spindle would turn and you would push the lever a little more and it would kinda lock in place for full engagement just like my series 60 but mine was not like that it was like all or nothing and very abrupt not much sliding or slipping of the clutch so when I took the round end cover off it did not look like anything I’ve seen for a monarch lathe in any pictures and the one part was held on with a big roll pin .So when I was at the junkyard I took everything off the other lathe and brought stuff home and cleaned up and looked to see what I needed to do to make it work ! So after taking my lathe apart I found that someone had made a shaft that ran from the clutch to the brake assembly inside the head stock so all I had to do was chuck up the shaft in my series 60 clean up the end some and thread it ( 3/4–16) is what the clutch threads were on the donor part after doing all that and putting it back together and some adjustments it seems to work fine and I now have that feel of the spindle engagement that I didn’t have before here are some pics .Next time I’ll do better with the pictures and documentation!!!
