I'm looking to pick up a wiggler set for the mill does anyone have the shars set is it any good just wondering if shars is good or if this is something I should try and get from starrett wondering if it's the same anyways since a bunch of starretts low cost stuff is made in China now anyways

I have Starrett and General Tools wiggler sets, I don't notice much of a difference between them, the Starrett may have a slightly better fit and finish but both work just fine.

I have both Starrett and a couple no name brand wigglers purchased from Enco. All seem to work equally well. When I've checked them against each other there's never been more than .0002 difference.

A wiggler makes a fun little project if you want the satisfaction of making your own. Easy to do and
not a critical build at all. Accuracy will be as good as any branded wiggler.

In my HM shop with what I do. I use the mechanical type edge finder most of the time. I have the wiggler, but can’t recall using it for a very long time. Mine is Starrett. Have seen the other brands. They all look like they will work. Maybe depends on the money you have, resale value, who you loan it to, how much use, etc.

The Starrett wiggler and sets are still USA made. You can also use the Starrett double edge finder with the cone point to find punch marks.
Starrett 827B double edge finder. Also USA made.

I have worked in machine shops for 25 years and have never used nor seen anyone else use a wiggler.
What are the advantages over an edge finder?

Probably none for basic edge finding. However, it has the needle point which makes it easy to locate scribed lines and punch marks. Also, the small disc is good for finding the edge/center of small holes. And the indicator holder comes in handy as well.

They are used by many hobbyists for finding center punch marks quickly where tenths accuracy is not needed. You can buy just the wiggler center finder or the complete set. The set included a edge finder, hole centering and indicator holder. If you have a DRO, it's not necessary.
Edge finders take more time and work best with a DRO.
