Metal Lathe JET - $1,075 (SW Austin, TX)

That looks like a 9X20. If so, isn't that a bit high?

From what I'm seeing, any hobbyist size lathe is higher in Texas and there aren't many of them.

yeah, that's a pretty reasonable price for around here. Usual prices are new +/- 10% :) No kidding, saw an HF 6x26 knee mill for $2500 once..

Wow, color me surprised. That lathe, new, would have cost about $1500-1700.

A jet 9 x 20 with the stand, if its in decent condition, that a fair price. I know my opinion isn't worth much, but I think that's a great starter lathe. big enough to learn some basics with aluminum, plastic and light passes on steel, and can be used in small spaces.. I had the Central Machines version without a stand, I really wanted the jet thou. Its quite literally a huge jump from a 7x14 lathe in size and ability.

There was a whole modding community dedicated to the 9x20 lathes, The compound slide was the weak point on them, but there is a mod for that too..!

I think 1500.00 was without the stand Mikey... A new jet with stand today is $3000,00 now...

Back when these came out they cost $1500 with the stand, and that is out here in Hawaii. I guess inflation and tarriffs have taken their toll. I do agree - nice size for a starter lathe.

prices around here are very different from other parts of the US. Not much industry other than gigantic oil patch machines and alot of the machinery that there is gets bought and shipped south of the border. Plus there's a distinct culture of "my stuff is gold, your stuff is $h!t" when it comes to pricing. So much so that I don't bother going to garage sales any more, no point when people are charging $1 for a 10mm socket or $10 for a hacksaw.

Looks still for sale?
I do not know much about these machines.
Never looked @ them as slowest speed is 150RPM ?
I guess folks cut threads on them, it has a thread dial. I’ve never tried to cut threads @ 150 RPM.
But what do I know? May be a piece of cake.
Is that a QCGB on it? Looks to have steady rest, & 4J on the under tray.
If I was looking i’d Have a look at it.
