Magnetic floor sweeper

Hmmm, not sure... Are you referring to some specific product? I'm not not sure what you're referring to.

Anyhow, if it's a truly magnetic product, I wouldn't expect it to work on brass, AL, SS, etc...

Do these work for "chips"? Recommendations appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

Are you thinking about the one on wheels that you push around like a broom? One of the things I have found in using any magnet around fine ferrous metals is that it is very difficult to remove it from the magnet once you pick it up. I use a paper shop towl and try to wipe it off but that doesn't work well. I have just settled on using my shop vac and it works on alum too. I do like the pick up tool from Harbor Freight that has a quick release handle. Works great for the larger objects such as nuts and bolts but the small swarf still doesn't release so easy. http://www.harborfreight.com/long-reach-magnetic-pickup-tool-with-quick-release-93950.html

I tape the paper towel to it. When done pull it off. No fine stuff to clean off. I have a Harbor Freight.

Possibly off topic but related... This year I revamped the shop and put epoxy coating on the floor with color chips that give it some tooth/grip. It's great! Very strong, sweeps-up easily and a quick mop with detergent makes it as clean as the kitchen floor. Moving the shop equipment was a pain but, I purposely did a 4 week renovation this summer to get things under control. -No regrets at all about doing it. If you go that route, I'm told by others that the hardware store brands don't hold up well. I went with this brand but, the same thing is sold under a few different names. Prices vary and some include shipping, some dont... Do your homework. http://www.epoxy-coat.com/
