Cleaning up and re-bushing an old manual actuated mage plate. When I opened it there was about 1/4 of oil in it. Is this a fluke or is that oil needed?

To be honest I have no clue but my magnet had oil in it as well. Not sure myself what I should put back either

My mag chuck had oil in it as well.

Mine had grease, that's what I put back in. Walker chuck with a rotary mag. Not a slider.
Mine is a walker ceramic chuck that had oil in it. Got a tool and die maker friend of mine making a few pieces for me so I can get it back together

It's for cooling. It's only partially filled to allow for expansion when it gets hot.
The coils of the magnet get hot during use.
I use hydraulic oil but I have no reference as to that being the preferred oil or not.

Mine only had about 1/4 cup in it. I dumped it to clean everything and need to put some back in.

That top piece kept leaking the stuff over days when it was on it's side, not assembled just by itself.

I re-bushed the actuation shaft, it feels so nice now.
