Made a pencil holder

It will be obvious from this post that I am a beginner. I made this pencil holder this weekend. It was the first time I used a press fit. Materials I used were part of an old weed eater clutch and a brass gas valve from some type of burner. I used my vice to press the brass into the steel. I find that simple projects like these help me understand a lot of aspects of running my lathe. There is only so much I can pick up from watching videos. I also find that brass is a fantastic material to learn with. Steel and I do not get along yet.

Good job! It's fun to see this little stuff come together.

When I first started only a couple month ago, every time I turned anything on the lathe it turned out to small. LOL
 
It’s a good start…your future projects will be mostly made up of a lot of simple operations.
 
Great job!! You will find many little things like that that make your life easier.
