Last summer I purchased a granite surface plate from the Government Liquidation Auction site in Albuquerque NM. This thing is 5' in diameter and 1.5" thick and weighs about 500 lbs. In Albuquerque there is Sandia National Laboratories, so I figure that is where it originated. It was still crated and had been sitting in a warehouse since 1963 and was probably to be used in the machine shop for QC. Anyway, I picked it up for $150.00 and made a pic-nic table. HAH!

Gonna be a long walk back and forth to the shop when you need a surface plate to check flatness.. Looks great though as a patio or garden table and it will last forever too.

Great table! I'd show that to my wife but I'm afraid it will give her "ideas".
