I use two lathes that I want to be a little higher for comfort. The 10" Sheldon is on a 1-piece/2-pedestal base, and the 13" LeBlond is on two separate cast pedestals. Does anyone here have a good recommendation for (maybe homemade) risers to elevate them about 3-1/2" and still achieve a solid-leveling mount on concrete?

Dave,
I bought a premade riser from Big Dog in Lousiana for my 3-in-1. It brings the work up considerable which keeps the quill spindle retracted and makes the whole mahine more solid. I think it was listed as a riser in there catalog and it was 69 or 79 if I remember correctly. It's been a long time so my price memory could be way off or not. Big dog has a site very similar to LMS so it should not be too hard to find. If you have difficulty PM me and I will see if I can find it for you.

I found my machines to be too low for comfort so I made risers by laminating 3/4" plywood.
I raised my mill 4" and my lathe 3". I found it really helped and the surface finish seemed to improve too.

Terry,
I can do that! I can imagine it might damp vibrations a little, but does it seem to make any difference in long-term leveling stability?
