Hi all,
Looking for ideas as what I can throw over machine(s) to protect them from dust etc?I need something I can throw over in the short term while doing so woodworking(tablesaw/router table) but also be nice if it was something I could leave on for extended periods of time and not worry about trapped moisture,so breathable.
Thanks in advance for any and all ideas

Eric

I have used old plastic tablecloths, discarded shower curtains, and small tarps or painters drop clothes myself.

Some of the woodworking stores sell ($$) covers for saws and other tools. I have one on the saw but have a piece of heavy canvas picked up at a yard sale (cheap) on the lathe. The canvas seems to work as well as the purpose-made one. I have read that a machine cover should not be plastic or plastic coated so that it traps the moisture.

Plain old cotton sheet as suggested. For a fancy one - a scrap piece of house wrap. You want to use something that is breathable to avoid humidity problems.

I'm an old bed sheet man myself. When shopping for new sheets, a smart long term thinker would think about its future machine cover role. Hey - a guy could move up from single size machines to King size. Then you'd know that you had made it as a home shop machinist.

Hey guys, I'm not sure if this applies under all conditions but.... I once had a motorcycle cover that didn't have vent holes and condensation built-up and gave the bike a nice layer of surface rust. FWIW, a desert survival trick is to hang a piece of plastic over a stick and every night, you'll get a cup of water... Point being, be careful with plastic tarps over your machinery.

HTC makes machine covers that are breathable, water resistant, & also has rubberized magnets sewn into each corner. Sound nice, I may try one some day.

That's exactly what I use, dirt cheap & perfect size for me. I tend to leave it covered if I won't be using it for some days. But I'm in Socal so it's dry & nothing to worry about.
