Searching around for opinions on what to use on my SB Heavy 10's gears I found a product called "Gear Shield Extra Heavy" from Lubriplate. I've only found a few posts from guys using this stuff and they seem to like it. Anyone using/used this stuff?

I have used it on some open gears, and some chain drives in the meat processing equipment. It is tacky, and in a shop with chips flying I'd want to shield the area where I used it pretty well. It is good stuff.

Although I have heard of that I just use #90 and give a squirt while its running

We used a lot of it at the coal mine in 5 gal. pails sprayed w/ a Hudson sprayer . It was used for the open gearing on the stripping machines . It got tacky and stayed on . Don't know about the EP properties , but it served us well . I use it on the open gearing outside of the headstock on the Jet 14x40 and also used it on the Zamack gears on the Atlas 12x24 . Once applied , it's on for the duration , it does not come off after the initial run in . Whitmores Lubriplate makes a good product . As mentioned it does attract chips so should be used in covered set up .

This is what I use. It's designed for open gearing and doesn't sling off. Quiets the gear train noise some too.
