Lubricants for my milling machine

I have just finished providing power for the mill I picked up a couple months ago and now I need to get it ready for use. Apparently the lubricants have changed a bit in the last thirty years or so since my mill was constructed (go figure! ;)) and now I'm looking to find a current replacement.

Here is the tag on the mill:

The Vactra #2 and #4 are easy as I already have the #2 (way oil for my lathe) and I have the #4 on order from Enco. I did some digging around on Mobil's site and found that they still have a "Mobilux" but I only saw a "CM" designation along with 0,1,2,... etc. I have no idea if it's the same or not. The Mobilplex 45 and 47 I came up empty on and the same for Mobilgrease "Special".

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

-Ron

Hmmmmm, I posted a link to Mobilegrease special but it said I needed moderated:headscratch:

http://www.mobil.com/China-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENGRSMOMobilgreaseSpecial.aspx

And here I was all set to make a crack about how you need moderation Charlie.

That link certainly helps as it looks like it's still available. Now I just need to track it down. As it's use is for "car, truck, farm tractor, etc." maybe I can find some locally. It always feels a bit silly to have to order oil or grease for some reason.

Where I find myself getting a bit confused is that Mobil may list "Mobilgrease Special" but when I go to Enco's or McMaster's site I find things like "Mobilgrease XHP 222 Special". :p (Same goes for the Mobilux btw) On the tag it lists "Vactra Oil No.4" but it doesn't call it "way oil" like it is on the container so how is one to know if it's "Special" or "XHP 222 Special" that one is looking for? Seems like they should get a better naming system.

Mobilplex(s) anyone?

Thanks,

-Ron

A call to your local distributor would likely be beneficial, I've found them most helpful in the past.

Hi Ron

Wells Index might be your best bet for a recomendation on lubes for your machine. Im shocked your just getting it ready to make chips now:shocked:, I thought you had been running that baby by now

That's a heck of an idea - especially after what little I've been able to find (posted below). I'll fire off an e-mail to them tomorrow (yeah, I know it's a holiday ;)).

What can I say? Getting the power out to the "shop" was a bit of a chore and things just keep popping up and getting in the way like work, wifely obligations, kid stuff, etc. Get this! Good example - I believe my wife volunteered to be my son's Boy Scout troop's "Popcorn Kernel" (play on colonel :p - ghastly pun) just to force me to clean out the garage!!!! You see, she will be coordinating the popcorn sales for the troop as well as distributing it. That means we need a place to store it. While we live in a decent sized home, the only place we could put the truckloads of popcorn is in the garage. She's a devious one, that one is...

See what I'm up against?! :phew:

Anyway, I was able to find a data sheet for the Mobilplex 47 but the URL has Egypt in the path so I have my doubts as to it's availability http://www.mobil.com/Egypt-English/Lubes/PDS/GLEGENGRSMOMobilplex_47.aspx Then I found another site with a reference to Mobilplex 45 saying it was OBSOLETE - http://www.chemwatch.net/Choogle/Ch...********OBSOLETE********************&cw=22302 Finally, there was also some info for "Mobilux EP" (don't know if the "EP" would be what I was looking for or not but... http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENGRSMOMobilux_EP.aspx So far (if the "EP" is okay for me) it looks like it may be attainable.
