We don't have any idea who this shaper was made by. There are no tags of any kind on it. It has been sitting outside for some time and may be a basket case, but we are going to try to restore it. I sprayed it down with Kroil yesterday and got some of the screws to move just a little. I'll spray it down again tonite and let it sit for a while longer.
The person that gave this to Arky found out he had the Steptoe shaper and told him he had something for him. This is what he showed up with. Ain't it cute???
We shall see, shant we. This will not be a project of the month. A month won't cover it. LOL

Very cool. That may clean up better than you think, especially if it's mostly "surface" rust. I'll look forward to seeing how you get along with it.

Your shaper is a Lewis. They were available as a set of rough castings, or as a bolt together kit. I think they also made a kit for a benchtop milling machine back in the day. I have a Lewis shaper, and while they are nothing fancy, they certainly are capable of doing nice work.

We could be looking at Project of the Year here. :winner:

It looks like a Lewis to me as well. There is a fairly active Yahoo group for the Lewis that has a considerable amount of information. Looks like a fun project!

it looks to be pretty complete
i'm out of room but that would have had a home here if i would have found it
