It seems fair to say that the pawl that holds the backgear rack out on 10" Logan lathes was under designed. Mine came broken, and it seems to be a common problem. Has anyone repaired one in a more durable fashion that worked out well?
You could probably make one out of tougher steel. I just replaced mine. It does seem like a common problem,
but the real question is how long they last. Mine is 77 years old, so if it failed after 50 or 60 years, it's probably OK,
especially in a hobby environment.
