Logan 400 Lathe on Seattle CL, for parts? $400

Looks quite fixable to me- pretty hard to put a Logan out of commission unless you dropped it from the Empire state building

Possibly. Do you want a project or something you expect to clean up and use? |Good|Quick|Cheap| you can have any two and "Good" is questionable.

The 400 uses the half nuts for everything, no clutch. It's probably got wear but won't know until you can check or run it at home.
No way to know how much damage the head stock took when they broke the case. It was a hard knock to do that, but as Mark says, they are tough lathes. There is a very shiny shop made handle on the compound, so they may have been running it. Or stuck it on there for the sale as the micrometer dial is missing. No quick change gear box, you will be changing gears and I don't see them in the pictures. Motor may or not be there.

Only you can answer how you want to balance the three. You may get it running for <$300, but zero accessories and unknown situation with the headstock. The 400 series bearings won't be as expensive as the 800/900 special preloads.

If you do decide to get it, I can set you up with a motor for free and a healthy discount on a new barrel switch I ended up not using. Maybe some accessories, I can't remember if the 400 uses the same diameter spindle as the 800/900 but the chuck looks trashed. I have a spare micrometer dial.

So a "Good" deal? I was once told in the Army "It's not a great deal, but it's a pretty good deal." Followed by something we didn't want to hear.

FWIW, YMMV. :)

Hi, I have a 400 and it has a clutch and a 1 1/2x8 spindle and 9 " swing.

Good deal on the spindle note, had a Dr
apt and no time to look it up.

Apparently some have clutches, some don't. Unless it's perfectly hidden under the cross slide dial in this picture.
