My mill/drill was delivered this weekend and the challenge lay in getting it off the floor and up onto the bench. After much research here and waffling between engine hoist or building a gantry crane I stumble on this by sheer luck. http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product/8017549/Work-Platforms/660-lb-Scissor-Lift-Cart at the tool rental place,40min later single handed(including building platform as table goes 30" and bench is 33") I was on my way back without breaking a sweat or doing anything unsafe.Hopefully this might also help someone else.

Nice idea. My *big* equipment comes in around 300 lbs but I have always rented a shop crane.
For my equipment this sure seems a worthwhile alternate. Thanks for the post.

My cheap solution was to use an eight foot solid core door as a ramp, and use a wench to pull the mill up to the bench. My X3 was sitting on a hefty furniture trolley, and I enlisted my son to keep it straight as we pulled it up. The door bowed just slightly at the middle of the run but we got it up on the bench.

I have pictures if anyone is interested.

Didn't your wench complain when you made her pull the mill up the ramp. :)):))

Argh! I did it again.

I have a friend here at work who calls me the Yogi Berra of spoken mistakes. This is the first time it has happened to me in "written" form.

It happens to me enough I suspect it's a cognitive issue. I frequently swap my nouns for something that is close, usually leading to embarrassment.

The table is rated for 660lbs My mill/drill comes in at just over 400lbs but being a Powerfist product as soon as you stopped pumping the table began a slow downward journey. All in all it was a lot easier to move around in a tighter confined space.Going with either the engine hoist or gantry would involve moving stuff out of the way and requiring at least two more people.

I used my engine crane to lift my 3-N-1 machine onto the work table. It was a real PITA because I had to cut up the pallet the machine arrived on to clear the hoist then moving a load like that made me very nervous, so it took way longer than it should have, Bit the saving grace is nobody got hurt and nothing got damaged. I am happy with those kinds of results, no matter how long it takes.
