Mike,
Show us a pic of the QCGB, it should be a double tumbler gear box. It is a tight fit in the bearing and should move as long as the leadscrew turns. Wiggle the leadscrew while pulling the leadscrew out. If that don't work get a small ceramic heater and let it heat up the case then try. If you are going to take it all apart watch out for the taper pins and make sure they are facing the right way before hitting them out. My gearbox was frozen when I got it and had to use heat from the little heater to move the shafts so I could get the taper pins headed in the right direction. The gear box is the hardest part of the lathe to work on, so take your time.

Mike, Do you have the gear & key removed? These have to come off first.

Mike, I'm not sure my 9A is the same, but when I rebuilt mine, it took a while of jiggling, twisting and pulling to get it to come out it was really gummed up.

The gear box will be tough to work on, it will come apart pretty easy, but is tough to get back together, no room to work inside the box. It is hard to line up gears while adding gears onto shaft as you feed it in. Watch out for taper pins, felts at shaft ends and tumbler arms are not the same, so make sure you don't mix them up. Check out before and after pics.
Paul
