I am trying to set up both a lead screw and screw cutting set of gears on my recently bought New Granville lathe

It came with a box of gears but I cannot see any way of locking them up on a couple of the shafts so the drive the next gear.

I have just thrown a set on (sorry for technical terms ) to get an idea of what's needed - the gears have key ways but the shafts don't.

Any tips or advice appreciated - I am new to screw cutting - my previous lathe was a very small Unimat 4 clone which was simpler but limited.

Looks like you have a "Junior" made around 1954
The data plate on the headstock might be a thread chart

Be careful about placing tools and drills on a magnetic strip-
When they start attracting a lot of steel chips/swarf you might have a big problem

Good point - didn't think about that

Should be a keyed bushing for 2 gear stack below the reversing gears and a keyed lead screw. The other gears just go on studs acting as idlers.
That's the issue - I have neither so need to make up something

Here is what it looks like without gears

Should be set up like this picture. Looks like the lead screw gears were secured with a set screw, no key on yours.

Yes I can see I need to find a way around my problem - I notice some gears have a small pin on them that will location a corresponding hole in others this may be the way they are meant to lock up to make a cluster gear. I have locking rings - I will have another go next week - will have more time then. Thanks
