Why is the tail stock a different color? I’m always leery of “fair condition”. I would take it to mean it has some problems or it would be in good used condition, right?

I would say fair means to expect some wear, so at least it's not being mis-represented IMO
I didn't know Lagun made lathes too, first one I've seen
