Pretty soon I want to upgrade my vise for my mill and was looking at some used Kurts. I found a nice 6" but I am having doubts about its authenticity. In all the pics of it, there is no model name plate on the side I could see. Is this possibly a knock off Kurt? Any way of telling a true Kurt over a knock off? Thanks all

I purchased a used "knock-off" Kurt a couple years ago. It was priced accordingly.

There were no obvious tags anywhere on it. But to my surprise, I found the Kurt name lightly stamped into the movable jaw upon close inspection. I only saw it after cleaning it up really well.

It's an older Kurt, no doubt. So maybe yours is similarly marked.

I have 2 Kurt vises. A 5" and a 6".
D5 and D6 are cast into them. You would only see this if you turn it upside down.

Keep an eye on Ebay. Every so often you'll see them cheap out there for reasonable shipping. I got one in September of last year for less than 200.00 with shipping. It was a Buy It Now, not an auction. Worth every penny, as far I'm concerned.

I just restored a Kurt vise. I called the company to ask how I would tell if it was real, since the ID tag only had a serial number stamped on it; the printing was worn off. The model is cast into the bottom of it. Mine had "A-50-1" cast into it. It's a D50 vise. They told me newer vises just have the serial number stamped on the vise, since the tags all get damaged.
