I have replaced my mill spindle bearings recently and I only now noticed that the ring behind te taper bearing on the bottomend of the spindle is moving freely and greas is dripping out sometimes.
Should this ring be able to move freely or should it have a pressfit into the quill or should the bearing hold the ring tight against the sholder? Is it acting as some sort of sealer or just a spacer? Currently there is about 0.20mm clearance between the quill and ring.
I don't see any seize marks in the quill and it measures spoton at 80.00mm. O what would be a suitable grease?
Thank you
Michael.
