Hi there,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place .... Still new here ...

I have a Sherline 4400 (with Z column for milling) setup, and getting tired of moving around 1" Dial Indicators on bases to use any sort of "DRO". I've been scouring for cheaper solutions, and came across KK moon scales (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0839GMC5W...rd_plhdr=t&aaxitk=t6K7CnPBypLg1diFgbbb1A&th=1). Our Canadian Peso hasn't been doing too well, and well, the Sherline equipment is tiny, so from what I gather, most of the other scales and such are pretty massive.

I was searching for 8-12" Calipers to modify for the lathe bed (I rarely move the cross slide further than that away from the head), and a smaller 6" for the crossslide and Z Column, but then this came up in the search.

Would this be worthwhile for a DRO setup (and eventual TouchDRO)? It looks like it has a tiny USB output ... (i can't tell what kind these days, seems there are too many mini/micro USB form factors to keep up with).

Thanks!

Brad

Brad,
These are the "Round Display" Shahe scale (you can find some info about the differences here: https://www.touchdro.com/resources/scales/capacitive/). They work "OK" for a DRO setup but if you could find the "Rectangular Display" version, you will have much easier time connecting them to a future TouchDRO setup.
In a nutshell these are pretty decent for a budget DRO setup. They are a bit slower than the iGaging EZ-View but provide much more stable and reliable reading (no flickering of the last digit, etc.). Pretty much all Chinese capacitive scales on the market have effective resolution of 10 microns.
