not sure where to put this so trying here.
my 7 yr old boy is wanting to make things in the shop with me.
getting bored with wood and welding now wants to make some shop equipment.
he made depth gauge when he was 5 using bit square bar and bike spoke, let him drill bar in press under full supervision then he tapped hole.
very basic but i tend to use it more than my expensive one.
see pic.aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.jpg
like me he is autistic only he as more severe version, is bright as anything in fact is 2 yrs ahead in school but hates interacting with other people.
so need some useful projects as he won't see point in making something unless we can use it.
cheers

like the hammer idea, got the bits to make that.
be a basic one then let him make ball pein after i have as still trying out ball turning tool.

his first lathe project.
turned handle himself using power feed, knurled handle, and drilled hole in handle.
drilled brass end went off centre slightly as pulled down bit hard on drill press.
he turned rd and said it will remind him to be more gentle next time.
then put head back in lathe and chamfer end.
i started tap off for him and he finished tapping hole in handle.

Now that is the smile of a young fella that is feeling a sense of accomplishment!! It looks to me like he did a great job and he learned much from the experience.
